Gender Inclusive Housing at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø offers residents the opportunity to choose their roommates, suitemates or apartment mates regardless of the gender identity of the individuals involved.
All students who wish to live in a Gender Inclusive room, suite or apartment must apply for this option and must complete the Gender Inclusive Housing Agreement.
For Returning Students:
For returning students who are interested in applying for Gender Inclusive Housing, you must fill the suite or apartment.
The Office of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) makes every effort to accommodate as many requests as possible for gender inclusive housing; however, based on total residential occupancy, RLH may be unable to accommodate all requests during a given room selection process. Should all apartments that have the gender inclusive designation be filled at the time a particular group of students is eligible to select, group members may have to select an accommodation from the single gender inventory. Due to building design limitations, gender inclusive housing may not be available in every residence hall.
If a roommate cancels their housing or moves out of the room for any reason, the remaining roommates may identify a new roommate to fill the vacancy. Should the group fail to submit a name to fill their spot within 48 hours, RLH reserves the right to assign another student to that space. In the event that the space is filled by RLH, every effort will be made to fill the bedroom with an individual of the same gender identity as the individual with whom they would share a bedroom space.
Should the occupants be unable to fill the space or unwilling to live with another individual outside of their chosen group, they will be given the option to consolidate/relocate the remaining resident(s) to another vacancy.
The following requirements must be met if you choose to apply for Gender Inclusive Housing:
- You must be a current student who has paid a room deposit for the respective academic year.
- You must have enough people to fill an entire suite or apartment for a full academic year (September through May).
- Should a vacancy occur within the suite/apartment the residents are responsible for filling that space with in 48 hours. Should they fail to do so RLH reserves the right to fill that space with another student.
For New Students:
New students who are interested in living in a gender inclusive living environment will have the option to indicate this preference on their housing license agreement.
During the roommate search/group formation process, students who indicated their preference to live in a gender inclusive environment, will be able to search for compatible roommates without a gender restriction.
If students do not find a compatible roommate through this process, they can be returned to the single gender search process, by sending a request in writing to reslife@bridgew.edu
The Office of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) will identity floors and rooms within the residence halls that can accommodate a gender inclusive environment. Due to building design limitations, gender inclusive housing may not be available in every residence hall.
If a roommate cancels their housing or moves out of the room for any reason, the remaining roommates may identify a new roommate to fill the vacancy. New roommates must be identified with the following criteria:
- The identified roommate must have submitted a housing deposit and already be in housing.
- The identified roommate cannot be on the waiting list.
- Should the group fail to submit a name to fill their spot within 48 hours, RLH reserves the right to assign another student to that space. In the event that the space is filed by RLH every effort will be made to fill the bedroom with an individual of the same gender identity as the individual with whom they would share a bedroom space .
Should the occupants be unable to fill the space or unwilling to live with another individual outside of their chosen group, they will be given the option to consolidate/relocate the remaining resident(s) to another vacancy.
