The TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. And it evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. The exam consists of the following sections:
- Reading: Read 3 or 4 passages from academic texts and answer questions.
- Listening: Listen to lectures, classroom discussions and conversations, then answer questions.
- Speaking: Express an opinion on a familiar topic; speak based on reading and listening tasks.
- Writing: Write essay responses based on reading and listening tasks; support an opinion in writing.

$195 in the United States, payable at the time of registration. Note that other fees apply for cancellations, rescheduling, additional transcript requests etc.
In general, an ID must be an original document, not a photocopy. It must not be expired, and it must display the full name you used to register for the test. It must also have a photograph and a signature. Drivers licenses and government IDs are typical accepted IDs for US citizens.
IF YOU ARE NOT A US CITIZEN: Candidates who are not US citizens must present a current passport as identification. If your name does not appear in English language letters on the passport, you must also present a secondary ID, such as a license, student ID, or bill. If you are a permanent resident, you can present your green card, along with a supplementary ID (student ID, license, government ID). Candidates without proper identification will not be allowed to test.
We recommend that you and ensure you have all required documentation before registering for your test session.
As part of your $195 testing fee, you may send your scores to up to four TOEFL Destinations before you arrive to take the test. Score report recipients can be added or deleted through the TOEFL iBT online registration system until 10 p.m. (local test center time) on the day prior to the test date. For selections made after the 10 p.m. deadline, there is a fee of $18 USD for each score report.
