Canadian Studies Program Overview

Since 1973, the BSU Canadian Studies Program has been dedicated to the teaching of Canada in the United States. Stressing academic excellence, the program:

  • Offers a variety of courses, which students may take toward a minor in Canadian Studies, as part of their major, or as core courses and electives
  • Encourages students to take part in exchange programs and internships

To educate and enlighten students, the BSU community and the public, the program:

  • Established the Killam Visiting Professor of Canadian Studies
  • Brings Canadian speakers to campus
  • Funds research and collaborative projects among faculty and students
  • Organizes events to facilitate communications between Canadian and U.S. governments, businesses, and organizations

Canadian Studies Program faculty members participate in academic conferences and maintain membership in many organizations, including:

  • Association for Canadian Studies in the United States
  • New England-Canada Business Council
  • Middle Atlantic-New England Council for Canadian Studies

The goal of the BSU Canadian Studies Program’s efforts to promote involvement in diverse areas of study while increasing awareness of Canada among students and the public is to foster reciprocal understanding and inspire the youth of both countries to combine their knowledge and talents to work toward the solution of issues facing not only Canada and the United States, but the world.
