Professional Development Workshops for Teachers
The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Math Teacher Circle
A learning community designed to connect math educators from K-12 and post-secondary education in a shared love of math exploration. Collaboration is emphasized as we explore engaging and rich math problems, and reflect on how the process of problem solving can make us better educators. In each 2-hour workshop, we will delve into a low-floor, high-ceiling math problem, and discuss ways of bringing the strategies used to solve the problem back to our own students.
These workshops will support the Standards for Mathematical Practice in the MA Curriculum Framework, in particular:
- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
Dates of Workshops: 8/24/24; 9/7/24; 10/5/24; 11/2/24; 12/7/24; 2/1/25;3/1/25 and 4/5/25
Participants will need to attend at least five of the eight workshops to earn credit. Each workshop will involve a reflection piece on the exploration of the day, and five of these reflections will serve as the observable demonstration of learning to earn PDPs.
These workshops will support teachers with certification in teaching secondary math (grades 5-8 and 8-12).
Please contact rstahl@bridgew.edu if you are interested in these workshops or if there are specific standards that you need help addressing.
