Academic Programs - Theatre

51³Ô¹ÏÍø's programs in Theatre Arts and Theatre Education combine practical instruction with rigorous study of history, theory and criticism to provide a holistic liberal arts education. Theatre graduates have gone on to rewarding professional careers in New York, Chicago, Boston and other major cities, and have become dedicated teachers and instructors whose enthusiasm and expertise help spread the value of theatre to new audiences.

Honors Program

The honors program in theatre arts provides highly motivated communication studies and theatre arts majors with opportunities to enhance their academic program through intensive scholarly study and research designed to be of assistance in postgraduate employment or in the pursuit of an advanced degree in theatre. Interested students should contact the Department of Theatre for further information concerning eligibility and application.

Activities and Productions

The program of theatre presents four mainstage productions annually in the 1300-seat Rondileau Student Union auditorium. The productions usually include two plays, a musical, and an experimental work. Any interested student is invited to audition for productions.

Several student clubs are actively engaged in cocurricular activities supportive of the academic programs in the department.

The Ensemble Theatre sponsors and produces student-directed studio productions, workshops, and social and educational activities. It is open to all students interested in theatre.
